RE: the Harry Carney bass clarinet solo someone mentioned; was it the
tune "PHANTAZM" on the Carnegie Hall 1948 recording? If not that's
another to add to the list. I also have the Buddy DeFranco "Blues Bag"
album. If you want to hear a less well known jazz bass clarinettist,
Roy Styffe has an album on Counterpoint/A&M called Subway Dream, on
which he plays bass and alto clarinet in addition to his usual alto sax
. Roy also plays b. clar on a recording by the Neufeld-Occhipinti Jazz
Orchestra (NOJO). This CD just won a JUNO award (kinda like a Canuck
Grammy) for best Contemporary Jazz Recording.
