My favorite score ID story was related by a Juilliard prof. Given a vocal
score with orchestral accompaniment, and text in Russian, the candidate
strung along his identification to include Moussorgsky, and the "Russian
Five", and managed to correctly place the music harmonically in the
Romantic Era.

The music in question was a famous aria from "La Traviata" in a Russian
translation!!
