Stan,

I have compared V12's and Blackmasters on Gigliotti, Gennusa, and
Fobes mouthpieces. To me the sound seems to be more focused
below the break and less brilliant or more covered above with the
Blackmasters and on all three mouthpieces. It would be interesting to
know whether a third party can tell the difference, but I haven't
done that experiment. The Blackmasters seem to last longer and there
are, for me, more playable reeds in a box. But they are narrower and
not suitable for all mouthpieces. In particular, I occasionally get a
chirp with the Blackmasters on the Gennusa and my great Fobes
mouthpiece while the V12's are perfectly stable on these mouthpieces.
