I really hate to say this, but once when my ligature broke at a
concert the only thing available I could use in an emergency was --
rubber bands. I put on about 5-6, really tight. It worked, but I
don't want to do it again. I know "German-style" clarinetists who
have used string, but my friends came back to ligatures.
