Lawrence,
Get the new horn overhauled. I've always done this to my clarinets
and they played even better afterwards. I've had Bill Brannen and in the
last 3 years, Tim Clark do my work. For a profesional overhaul, it's not
cheap - usually around $300 but it's worth it.
It entails all pads being replaced on the top joint with cork and
the bottom with double thick pads, taking out any play in the mechanisms,
adjusting spring tensions, etc. After the overhaul, the clarinet seals
prefectly. Tim reccomended to play my new horn for a month and then do the
overhaul.
