I was deeply sadened by the news of Robert Marcellus's death this morning. I
know several of his former students, each of whom have added tremendously to my
musicianship by passing on a wide variety of insights and stories. Furthermore,
he leaves behind a wealth of recordings that will forever live in my record
collection.

I think it would be appropriate for any and all former students, collegues, and
admirers of Robert Marcellus to share any of these stories, or any favorite
recordings you may have. Also, I would like to mention the International
Clarinet Association journal issue several years ago that included Kent
Nygren's interview with Marcellus. I know I will forever treasure that
interview, and will get it on the net if I get time.

In the meantime, anyone who would like to contribute anything about Robert
Marcellus, please do so to the group, and not to me personally. It would be a
welcome addition to anyone's collection.

In closing, I would like to offer sincere condolences to memebrs of his family
who might read this message. He will live forever in our musical hearts and
minds as one of the greats, and he will be deeply missed.

Sincerely,

Greg Baker
