It has been a long time (long to me, short to Leeson ;}}} ) since I first
played a band piece by Vaclav Nelhybel in my high school band (circa 1969,
Zion-Benton Twp HS, Zion, Ill), but I still remember the feeling of
excitement as we pulsed through one of his numbers for symphonic band. Few
band composers were as influential in forming my appreciative sense for wind
ensembles as was Nelhybel.

I feel lucky to have played his music.
