Nate, Klarinetters---
I never understood exactly what the "hand-made" thing was all about. I
have a new 10R which I assume has quite a bit of hand work done on it.
Can anybody educate me about what a hand-made clarinet is, exactly?

You believe that? I played on a Selmer for two years, and it was all right
(for an intermediate-level instrument). I'd venture to guess that Goodman's
Selmer was far better than those that are made today -- remember, they were
still hand-making them when he was playing.
I'm convinced that as long as Goodman endoresed Selmer, he played on a
Selmer. The Selmer Company wouldn't pay a musician for carrying a Buffet
instrument in a Selmer case. I'll leave it at that -- I have no desire to
start a Selmer vs. Buffet argument. :)
