Say it isn't so! Except for one or two concerts on a Buffet that he found
"awkward" (Gibson, "Clarinet Acoustics" . . . I liked the book, OK?)
Benny was a Selmer guy, no? Tell me more about this Benny Goodman/Buffet
relationship!

Just another Benny Goodman story. Later in Benny's life a musician who I
will not mention names asked Benny, "Hey, you're still playing those Selmer
clarinets?" Benny Replied, "Hell no, I'm playing on a Buffet. I'm just
carrying it in a Selmer case because I'm paid to endorse Selmer."
P.S. I used to have a Selmer Senotone, which I loved, but it just wore out
with age, since I got it second-hand myself, and the repairman just refused
to touch it after bringing it to him after about ten times.
And you're absolutely right, Jazz playing does require that you find the
right mouthpiece and reed setup.
