Anyone who has not heard the Szell/Cleveland recording of Domestica should
drag his/herself to the nearest good record store and purchase it. It is on
Sony Essential Classics. Aside from simply being a tremendous performance, it
is a good oppotunity to hear how a beautiful tone concept can infect others
to play beautifully. I refer to the extended solo for the A clarinet in the
slow movement (this solo is acutally an accompanimnent part) which is played
by Thomas Peterson, assitant principal (recently retired). He sounds so much
like Marcellus in some ways it is frightening. I can't describe in words what
it is about his sound (or Marcellus's for that matter) but if you listen,
there it is! RM sounds his usual self, as expected.

Also worth special mention are the gorgeous oboe solos by Marc Lifschey. The
"d" clarinet part is played by Ted Johnson. There is also Death &
Transfiguration on the same cd (an older recording, but still stereo).
