I would welcome any information, opinions, loose thoughts, about Vito Eb
Bass Clarinets. I am thinking about buying a bass clarinet. The community
band I play Bb in, cannot afford any new instrument at the moment and possibly
for quite some time to come. But they would love to have a bass clarinet
and I would love to play it. Now an aquaintance of a colleague of mine, who
is an experienced bass clarinet player and owns a Selmer low C bass, has
an old Wurlitzer/USA bass (to Eb, not low C) for sale for which he asks 1000
guilders (about $600). It must clearly be overhauled, has a repaired crack,
needs a new mouthpiece and really also a new case. So the cost adds up to
something like 1700 guilders. The repairman that my colleague trusts to
do the overhaul also does sell bass clarinets. He has a new "plastic" Vito
(to Eb, not low C) which he sells for 3000 guilders complete with a case.
What do you all out there think about this? I'd love to hear from you!
It is a lot of money and I want to make a good decision. My colleague tells
me that a bass to Eb is sufficient for the kind of music that my band plays.
Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me!
