Can't leave out other members of the family. I bring up 2:

1. Bass clarinet solo in Shostakovich 8th
2. Basset horn solo in Beethoven's Prometheus ballet

The Shostakovich is particularly difficult due to lack of an intelligent
place to take a breath.

The Beethoven is his only piece for the instrument and it is a mighty
solo (actually a duet with oboe).
