This week's TV Guide was predicting Oscar winners and stated that
>Richard Dreyfus was unlikely to win because Mr. Holland's Opus wasn't an
>"important" film.

It is a sad commentary when some of the "trite" plots get nominated for
oscars and Mr. Holland's opus is considered not important. What is TV guide
thinking? Where are their heads?

Mr. Holland's opus had several important messages in it. The message about
balancing family life and the job was "on target" The part about the
priority of music in the pecking order of schools is one of the most "right
on" themes in the movie. I have been through the exact same thing.
Football continued to flourish. Furthermore, I have seen Richard Dreyfus on
talk shows actively supporting the arts.

Despite the fact that the movie used non-union musicians, instruments were
left on stands and the clarinet players didn't even have to wet their reeds,
this movie should be shown to every administrator. It might make their
brains a little more open then the people at TV guide. TV guide is
obviously sitting on them.

BTW, I like the red hair girl. The only one that actually was playing the
clarinet.
It shows that if you play clarinet you could grow up to be governor!
