I don't have many Klocker recordings, but my understanding is that he does a
lot with period instruments. This may be what you're hearing as a strange
sound?

I do have one quite old recording of Klocker playing the Hindemith Quintet
with string quartet. His sound is very beautiful to me on this, very mellow
and smooth. His later recordings (the ones I have heard) do not sound
anything like this, regardless of the instrument he plays.
