I lost the message from the guy who found a D clarinet for sale but I
measured my Buffet and it is 18 inches, very close to yours. But my other
reason for replying is this. A number of years ago I found a stack of
decaying music in a junk shop in Nyack (on the Hudson River, NY) that
included clarinet parts for a lot of dance music (American) that I suppose
dates back a century or so. Several different size clarinets were involved
including D!
It would be an interesting project for somebody in the US to look into the
history of the use of different size clarinets over there (If such a study
has already been done, let me know). Nick
