Cahuzac's recording of the Hindemith concerto was undertaken in his 80th
year at the composer's specific request. Cahuzac also made quite a name
for himself later in his career as a conductor. He also had a farm outside
of Paris and during the summer would have as many as 18 students living in
a converted building in dormitory style accomodations. He was diminuitive
in stature (ca 5'), played Buffet instruments and sounding quite unlike
any of the other French players of his era. Compare his performances with
those of Delecluse, eg. He met his "end" as the result of an accident
between a Parisian taxi and his moped on the Champs Elyse. I agree with the
comments about the Nielsen when compared to Ib Ericsson's early LP for
the London label. His Mozart recording (IMO) is quite wonderful.
