From: Greg Baker <BAKERG01@-----.EDU> Subj: Don't write for the clarinet... Date: Sun, 17 Mar 1996 23:17:48 -0500
Excuse me if this issue has been on before, but it is worth mentioning
again. There are a lot of pieces (concerti, sonatas, etc) that were written for
the clarinet extraordinarily late in their respective composer's life. Some of
these pieces include:
Mozart-Concerto (probably the most famous)
Schumann-Fantasy Pieces
Schubert-Shepherd on the Rock
Brahms-Sonatas (for that matter, the Quintet and Trio as well)
Poulenc-Sonata (a favorite, even among non-clarinetists)
Please fill me in on any I may have missed. Also, remember, the lesson to be
learned is an important one:
DON'T WRITE FOR THE CLARINET. IT WILL KILL YOU!
On that pleasant thought, goodnight.
Greg Baker
