I think that the transposition debate is winding down. We agree to
disagree. Now on to some other hot potato.
As I mentioned in my last post on illegal transposition, why don't
we carry it a step further. Do German music on German bore clarinet (I
suppose we should use German system too), English on English bore, etc. As
I mentioned, Chicago Symphony clarinets are starting to do this. Are any
other US orchestras doing this? I know there are a handful of American
players playing German system (Michelle Z, Charles Stier) and some other
players are getting English bore Rossi clarinets or Horvath clarinets.
Also are English players still using English bore or is the R-13 pretty
much the standard in the UK?
Major orchestra trumpets are getting into the German for German
music scene. I know that some conductors will specify rotor trumpets if
they are doing Mahler or Bruckner. I'm not sure if the orchestra or the
players own them.
Later. I have to finish transposing all my Brahms for Eb clar. Just kidding Dan.
