Dan L. et al.: I did not intend to be flippant about the topic as a
whole, or about Steve Prescott's knowledge and experience. However, a LOT
has written on the topic on this list at various times, and we seem to
have stuck at the same points every time. It would be interesting to know
what relationship there was between a composer's choice of keys and the
customary forms of temperament used in the (cultural) areas where he
worked, for instance. The question of temperament in eighteenth-century
and even early nineteenth-century music is far more complex than the average
music-lover or musician thinks, I'm sure. (Yes - I AM including myself as
a more or less average something or other...).
