Here's my $.02..

I think that starting kids on paino at al young age is wonderful!!! (As a
small child, I actually begged (yes it's true *I begged*) for piano
lessons-but alas we didn't have a piano- and my parents didn't see the need
AAARRRRUGGG) Anyway - back to what I was saying....

Piano is an excellent way to introduce music to children
< made sure that I had piano lessons with the neighbour
<from about grade 2 on, thus giving me (some) familiarity with reading
<music, keys and so forth.

I think that the musical training that the kids get from piano will transfer
easily to clarinet (or any other instrument) when the kids take up a new
instrument. I don't know anyone who regretted taking piano as a child (even
if they did complain as children about the lessons!) : )

Let me tell you from personal experience- having the piano background would
have been very helpful when I was in college. I really wish that I had had
that opportunity as a child.

That's it-

Anne
