I started playing clarinet in the fourth grade in the public school
program. I think I was eight or nine. About two years later I started
taking private lessons and the teacher was amazed that I was using reeds
with hugh holes and chips in them. Getting back to the subject though it
does not seem to me an advantage to start much earlier.
