She has played the recorder in school. I confess to not being a big
fan of the recorders they use in school (and to some extent of
recorders in general) . They are just too touchy to play well.

The advantage of the clarinet is that both her older brother and I
play it and she can take lessons from his teacher.

I probably won't have her start until she is 10 years old, another
year. I really think she could managed with her hands, but I was
concerned about the weight. The strap suggestions are good ones.
