Hi... I too started clarinet when I was small, and I had no large
problems, except that I couldn't reach the right hand C key very well, so
I learned to use the left hand all the time. It took a lot of work
during my middle school years to unlearn that. In my school system,
students start in 4th grade, and I would think that by that age, most
children could hold the clarinet's weight well enough, and the finger
size problem shouldn't stop anyone who wants to learn.
