Regarding whether the piano is an easier instrument to play than the
clarinet: it seems much would depend on when one started to play and take
lessons. Myself I took up the clarinet at about age 8. I am now 50, but
about 12 years ago I gave a try at the piano. From my limited experience
it seems that early training cannot be overimphasised just as in learning
foreign languages are easier for children. I still play the clarinet and
I do not regret learning some piano though I soon realized I would not be
able to go for on the piano. Also it was easier for me to pick up both
flute and sax than the piano. But take another example: the violin.
Unless one studied this instrument early on, it's my opinion one could
pretty much forget it.
