My suggestion for finding an alto would be to check with schools.... both
higgh schools and colleges. Since they are fading out *sniff*, some of
these schools might be looking to sell these rarely used horns to
supplement their budgets. (I've heard that one of the music professors
at the U of Iowa has a couple of altos on his wall... he seems to think
that's the best place for them.)

In my case, I started liking the sound of the bass hearing some Eric Dolphy
performances, plus I think it will be more useful if I play more with this
little semi-rock combo. But good luck finding an alto! There seem to be
approximately 10x fewer of these than even basses.
