Hi! Did you ever consider looking at Indiana Universty. It's at
Bloomington, Indiana. I attended the camp there several years ago and
it's an experience I'll never forget. The band directors are
outstanding.Ray Cramer probably conducts the top band. He is a
very good motivator and makes each student feel great about playing. I
believe the university directors there still conduct these
bands personally. I don't know if you're aware but I.U. has consistently
rated among the top music schools in the nation for years. The students
stay in supervised dormatories not too far from the music school. The
kids are kept busy either in rehearsals or classes such as music theory.
When not in classes they have supervised activities for fun. As for levels
there are bands for different musical abilities. If you
investigate, I'm sure you will find Indiana will rate up with the schools
you've checked out so far. I'm pretty sure they also give scholarships
there. and it's easily within a days drive. The prices should also be
much more reasonable than the schools you've mentioned.
