I would not necessarily go the route of a Bundy as a cheap instrument. I
have used them before and the sound is raucous, and the pitch is not even
close. I have not seen the modifications that Charles Bay does to them, but
I can't imagine that it would be better than a decent used instrument. I
have a Buffet Prestige Bass that I got used (three years old and had Tom Yea
in Los Angeles put several hundred dollars worth of work into it) for 3500.
I know this is substantially more than 2000 for the Bay, but my horn is a
great horn. If you keep your eyes open and look for used ads, you can get
some really good stuff. I also know somebody that gets lots of good used
instruments in garage sales and pawn shops. You can get even better deals
in those places....
