Does anyone on the list know anything about Germaine Tailleferre's two
works for clarinet (I think there are only two), "Arabesque" and "Solo
Concerto" (actually "Concerto for Solo Clarinet")? The most recent
book about Tailleferre mentions a couple of recordings of the piece
(I recommend Virginia Soames') but says nothing about why they were
written, for whom, etc. They are both lovely pieces, sophisticated but
(unlike a lot of the 20th century repertoire) playable by an amateur or
a student. Has anyone on the list ever played either of them on a recital
or concert? Any info. of any kind would be much appreciated!
