Hello

My first post as a Newbie on this list replies to Del Sizemore's questions
on the Basset Horn. The difficulty of the sub-E notes has only one resolution:
practice, practice, practice. The small hole in the left index finger pad
is for altissimo playing; the tone hole that one leaves open on the regular
clarinet is much too big
for that purpose on the bigger clarinets.

I take it your basset horn doesn't have the mechanism used on alto and bass
clarinets, where the register key opens one of two holes depending on the
other keys pressed. In any case, if the throat Bb is terrible, you can always
either use the side trill key or play low Eb with the register key.
