Brad----

I'm curious about the Buffet "Master Model". Never heard of that one! How
does it compare to the R13? Also, am fascinated by your descritpion of
the Selmer tone holes as "big and far apart". You're talking about a
clarinet here, right? I have a 10R Selmer. Welcome to the list!!!

Hi, I'm new to the list (enjoying it very much) and thought I'd introduce
myself. My name is
Dan Torosian and I'm a full-time saxophone player, playing professionally for
about 14
years. Before playing sax I was a trumpet player. Unlike most sax players I
know, I really
enjoy playing clarinet - I've been working on it for a few years, and can get
around on it
reasonably well now (mostly simpler jazz & blues stuff ). Here's what I'm
using for
equipment: Buffet 'Master Model' Bb clarinet, Vandoren B45 mouthpiece,
Vandoren #3s or
V-12 #3s. I also have a Selmer Series 10, but the holes feel a little big
and far apart to me (I
have fairly small hands). On sax, I mostly play tenor (Selmer Mk VI, Berg
Larsen 110/2/M,
V-16 #3s). I also play the other saxes, though not as much.

Mostly I know what I need to do to get where I want on the instrument
(transcribe, practice,
lessons) but I thought I'd ask a few questions:

- What are some 'typical' jazz mouthpieces (I know, I know, it's a can of
worms...)?
- I recently bought a bass clarinet (Leblanc student model) and the
mouthpiece is, well,
terrible. I'll be in N.Y. next month and can do some serious shopping but
don't know where
to start as far as brands, etc. Any help here?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Dan
