In a reply to the thread on "rap music", Lisa Oberlander wrote:

Maybe the discussion of it doesn't belong here, but to say that heavy metal
is the lowest form of music is a little like saying that salmon are the
lowest form of fish because I don't like salmon. I'm sure that salmon
lovers would disagree>>

I can't believe that this thread has lasted as long as it has on this list
(for a variety of reasons). O.K., O.K., it's my opinion, but...
1. It has nothing to do music.
2. It has nothing to do with the clarinet.
3. Am I missing something or is there really a relationship between "rap"
and "heavy metal", as if either of them belong on this list in the first
place.

Somewhere, in my formative years (that's many, many, many years ago), I
learned that music is comprised of four elements; melody, harmony, rhythm,
and form. I considered all of the music with which I was then familiar and
decided that the subject was closed. Never again would I lie awake at night
contemplating that age old question; "What is music?"

All right. My mind is again open. Let's have some current "politically
correct" definitions. I would hate to think that I went to my grave without
knowing the truth.
