Mark Gustafson,

In reply to your inquiry about recordings of Eduard Brunner's
playing, I recommend "Piano Concerto" by Joseph Suder. Actually a double
concerto, the work is subtitled, "Adagio and Rondo for Piano, Solo
Clarinet, and Orchestra." This remarkable work was recorded on a CD by
Margarita Hohenrieder, piano, Eduard Brunner, clarinet, and the Bayrischen
Rundfunks Orchestra conducted by Jun'ichi Hirokami. The CD is from Calig
and the number is CAL 50888.

Also contained on the disc by the same composer is "Arietta and
Burlesque for Clarinet and Piano."

The music to Jean Francaix's "Clarinet Quintet" carries a
dedication, "To My Friend, Eduard Brunner," suggesting that he may have
commissioned the work. Although I don't have a catalog with me, I would
guess that Brunner has recorded that quintet (my recording is with Maurice
Gabai). I would guess that Jonathan Cohler, who knows a lot about
Francaix and recordings of his works, would know whether my speculation is
correct or not.
