What is it that makes rap "anti-music"? What is "real music"? I think
that the typical response of the classical musician to rap, or country,
or popular music is exactly parallel to the reaction many people have to
classical music. We aren't supposed to like it. I think every
individual piece, whatever genre, should be judged individually. This
attitude is the kind of thing that makes classical music come across as
being a totally elitist art form.

I think it is possible to keep an open mind and enjoy a huge variety of
music. After all, these styles and sounds all influence one another. I
imagine that many classical players had a similar contempt for jazz, but
it has had an unquestionable effect on classical music.
