Danielle,
I have been finally trying to learn to double and triple tongue and to
circular breathe. When I was first learning clarinet and saxophone, double
and triple tonguing were regarded as the province of brass and flute players,
not really applicable to reeds, although cogniscenti were aware of
exceptional virtuosi who did use these techniques. I think now these are
becoming standard or expected techniques and not exotic tricks. Similarly,
the altissimo register on the saxophone is now generally taken for granted
and multiphonics are not considered esoterica.
It would be interesting to get the comments of professionals and full-time
teachers on these points. Perhaps you'll share the results of your informal
survey with the List?

Sincerely,

Everett Austin
