Jacqueline,your first warm-up exercise is a variation on a warm-up described
in a an article written by Vincent Abato in a pamphlet published by LeBlanc
in the 1950s. It was a collection of articles about different aspects of
clarinet technique. The Abato exercise only goes to the the note you start on
into the second octave, and not the third(not that it matters that
much).I've used it with students for years, and it is very good for
developing a stable embouchure over larger intervals, and not shifting the
embouchure when you slur down a seventh from the clarion register to the top
of the chalumeau register. It also helps to develop a constant airsteam
through the registers and gives students the chance to pay attention to good
hand position and minimum travel time for the fingers between pitches.
