In a message dated 96-02-20 15:55:12 EST, you write:

>There is no motivation. I feel like I am never going
>to get any better, but only slowly move backwards. I am not studying with
>anyone and I feel that is my only way to improve

You have already told us what your problem is. You need to get someone else
involved in your playing to nudge you along. A private teacher would be the
ideal for this, but if that is not a possibility due to geography or
finances, approach your band director and tell him what you've told us. He
should be able to recommend some books to work with to help you improve thru
practice. A private teacher, on the other hand will know exactly what things
you need help with, and assign material accordingly. And the constant flow of
new material will help both your technique and interest.

I'm still up in the air as to whether private lessons really help the
majority of students improve, or is it just the amount of practicing they do
(which they could do private lessons or not!)
