I am adding a brief comment to an exchange in which Sean Talbot dropped
the phrase
"equipment doesn't count" and Dan Leeson asked where he got that comment
(which, Dan said, Sean had "internalized").
Since subscribing (and enhancing my clarinet life 300%) I *have* sensed a
real ambiguity about equipment on this list. I don't understand this.
We're all at different places. I think everyone understands that
equipment doesn't make the player. But I think (I'm reading Stubbins now
so watch out) the "tone-generating system" of our instrument is
techno-intense. So are the phrasing and performance possibilities. I'm
perfectly comfortable with lots of postings of both sorts.
