The Vandoren Javas are strictly a saxophone reed and are pretty similar to
LaVoz reeds which are popular with jazz players and students. The regular
Vandoren saxophone reeds are more for classical playing.
The Rousseau JDX mouthpieces are a jazz type mouthpiece and the 'deformation'
in the roof of the mouthpiece is a short roll-over baffle which tends to
enourage a brighter sound. Classical mouthpieces have a straight baffle and
many jazz mouthpieces have a long rollover baffle rather than the short one
yours has. I have a JDX mouthpiece like yours but really use for it, though
like the Rousseau classical mouthpieces. I believe he plays one even when
doing jazz type solos.
I hope this helps a little. The Saxophone Journal is a good source of
saxophone information. ( Phone is (508) 359-7004)
