When I stuck an Opperman mouthpiece on my $60 flea market metal Supertone, it
did indeed sound great! It was also very much in tune in spite of the
appearance of the old pads. There will be no lamp here! However, I must
admit, Dan, that if it were an unsalvagable piece of junk, I would have
strung christmas lights through it & stuck them out the holes as well as put
a lightbulb and shade in the mouthpiece socket. If it has no hopes of ever
being played again, why shouldn't it have a second life as well as providing
some humor? Although I do wonder what a clarinet player would be doing with
an ashtray... To me, that is the statement not to be made.
