Sean, it would be valuable to know who suggested that "equipment doesn't
count" as you have alleged. I don't believe in any discussion over the
last year that this statement was even inferred, much less explicitly
stated.

Let us not get the argument out of proportion by misstating the premise.
The discussion was about the medium of the instrument, woods of various
types, metal, etc. No one suggested, as you seem to have internalized,
that plastic reeds, unsatisfactory mouthpieces, etc. had no affect on
the clarinet, the clarinetist, or anything else.
