I see that a reader mentions his B-flat metal Selmer. I have a B-flat
metal French Selmer, dated August 1930, with full-Boehm key system. It
has a unique telescoping barrel with a marked gradations for tuning
precision, something I also saw on a similar Selmer metal E-flat which
the same store was selling.

Selmer assured me that mine was a professional-quality clarinet, and it
behaves accordingly. A friend tried it an assured me that it was at least
as good as his Mazzeo-model wooden French Selmer.

I also have a Cundy-Bettoney metal E-flat, marked "U.S." so presumably
made for the military, another pro-quality instrument.

The store in Salem, OR which sold me both of these also reportedly had a
Selmer metal e-flat alto, unfortunately sold before I ever saw it.

Our band does a lot of outdoor performances, so I appreciate having
quality metal instruments which won't crack under adverse weather conditions.
