The JAVA (JAzzVAndoren) is supposedly really named after M. Vandoren's
wife's dog--named JAVA--but JAzzVA,etc makes more sense. These sax reeds
are of the American cut and (I will not say brighter here, you go figure).
One of the clarinet majors here has been awarded the postion of alto clarinet
in an upcoming performance of the Ingolf Dahl Sinfonetta with the Wind Ens.
The instrument and mouthpiece are of a professional level (brand and etc
not needed here). He has gotten the best results and feed-back with his
use of an Alto Saxophone 2.5 JAVA reed. The purple box for reeds (clarinet)
is the traditional clarinet reed of Vandoren--thickness of blank and other
dimensions--the V12--(see Lee Gibson's articles in CLARINET) has a thicker

blank and other dimensions. The story goes--when the Morre reed ceased to
exist--the V12 was conceived to take up the slack--this may be rumour and
not the case--but the story seems to fit. Hope that helps--I must go and
practice the Hindemith Septet--fugue movement V--or I shall be selling reeds
and not clarinet performance.
