Unfortunately this does not work if the room is cold (even just
comfortable), or if there is a draft. Room temperature is around 75F,
but the air you breath into the horn is 90+F. A lot warmer!!! For
example, the horn cools noticably during tacet movements in symphonies.
A clarinet must be warmed with the hands (or by placing the top joint
next to the body inside the performer's suit coat) before being played
on.
