My experience with pre-soaking reeds is that it makes tham warp at the
onset if they are going to warp at all. After soaking/drying them a few
times, I sand the backs flat (except for the ones that are warped beyond
repair - those go to the circular file) and then test-play the reeds. I
have found the performance of the reeds to be a little more consistant if
they are "conditioned" first.
