I am a senior in high school planning a music major in
college. I have had to budget my practice time very carefully
this year because in addition to playing the clarinet, I play
the viola. I also have to keep up with my school studies. When
there are concerts I want to go to, I plan a little extra
practice time so that I don't miss practice by going to a
concert or recital.
Sometimes I practice before I leave for school from about
7:15-8:00 or if I arrive at school early I'll practice before
first hour. I spend my lunch hour in the band room practicing as
well as activity periods. I still have a little spare time.
When I have a concert or especially an audition, I plan my
practice time very carefully. If you get a weekly calendar, you
can make a plan for several days, or an entire month, and decide
how long you want to practice each day and fit it in with the
rest of your activities.
Good Luck.
