I don't see how silver would "deaden" the sound (what about all those
flutes out there?). I *do* find that my fingers, to use Jack Brymer's
great phrase, "drag" on it. I enjoyed someone's comment about three or
four weeks ago saying that the great technician Moenning would insist on
"stripping" the plate, nickel or silver, from a customer's clarinet
leaving it rough and ugly (I believe the poster described the metal as
"green" after Moenning was through with it). Moenning must have enjoyed
that.

Gracious! I have heard from many teachers that silver plating can deaden
the sound of the instrument and that silver plating a clarinet that you
love may be hazardous to its health!! Any comments>?
