Good question. If I found a clarinet with nickel plated keys that absolutely
knocked me off my feet, I would buy it and have it stripped and replated.
But, I have never found one worth the trouble and added expense. My point
was that one should not have to go to such lengths to acquire a truly fine
instrument. Examples of a professional model should be uniformly fine as
well as available with important options (like silver plating). That is one
of the many reasons I've stayed away from Buffet all these years.

Brings up a good point. If you found a fantastic horn, but the keys were
nickel, would you get them replated with silver?
