Bill Brannen told me that if I have a case that does not separate the lower
joint from the bell, water damage could occur. The tenon on the lower joint
could actually rot with too much water damage. The comprimise solution is to
swab very carefully, the bell and tenon of the lower joint, then put them
back together AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. I am willing to bet that your case will
allow your lower joint to be separate from your bell maybe as much as five
mms. Even though the two parts are together, they are now properly swabbed
and air can get in the crack and dry things out fairly well. Also, the cork
will only become partially compressed...added bonus.
Good luck,
Brad Behn
