Hello:

Have read your message. You can't win "em all. There's one in every crowd.
While these may be trite statements and cliches, they hold true in the band
world. Sooooo, hang in there with this guy. Be a better bandsman than he is.
So far as getting moved from the symphonic band to the concert band, just
enjoy the music you have in front of you. Your director may be right and may
need your talents in other places. Whether a "symphonic" band or a "concert"
band, don't worry about the organization so much as with the music you play
and how you play it. More important to be a good team member than a soloist,
believe it or not. Have you heard of the National Collegiate Band Fraternity?

The best to you. Wish I were back in my old college band (symphonic, concert,
marching, jazz, wind symphony, and clarinet choir) at the University of
Arizona again. Best days of my life!!!
