Subj: Frantic calls to get off the KLARINET list
Date: Tue, 13 Feb 1996 13:55:45 -0500

Over the last week, I saw at least a half-dozen frantic requests to
get off the KLARINET list. The way the people wrote, I got the
impression that they were about to die if they did not get off the
list.

Two of these people stated that they were music students and clarinet
majors, whereas the others either did not identify their instrumental
affiliation are are presumed by me to have fallen into the list by
accident.

I can understand non clarinet players accidentally getting on this list
and then wanting to get off, but for a clarinet player to act that way
is so foreign to me as to leave me nonplussed.

If such a list as this existed when I was a student, I would have burned
down my house rather then get off it, so much is there to learn about
every aspect of clarinet playing. I would have sucked every contributor
dry of knowledge and enriched myself thereto.

And these people who hope some day to make a kind of living playing
or teaching or doing something with clarinet are asking to get off it.

Go figure!
